DIY Friday: Brown Sugar Green Tea Lemonade

Friday, April 26, 2013

Welcome to the first post in my DIY Friday series! Now, I'll admit I've had trouble sticking with various blogging series in the past, but haven't we all? DIY Friday is a pretty simple concept, I think: on Fridays, I'll post a DIY. It can be anything from a recipe to a craft project to an HTML/photography tutorial! I'll also take requests--just leave a comment on a recent post with your idea.
Anyways, my mother came up with this recipe almost two years ago, and since then it's become a family tradition. And during the hot + sticky summers we get here, it's especially appreciated -- though we drink it even in the winter! It's easy to make and healthier than a lot of lemonades you can buy in the grocery store. And it's nice to know almost exactly where what you're drinking came from for once. ;)
you will need
1-1 1/2 cup brown sugar (not dark or light, this is crucial)
1 green tea bag
Pitcher capable of holding 52 or more ounces
26 ounces hot water
26 ounces cold/purified water
4 ounces lemon juice
directions
Pour the 26 ounces of hot water into your pitcher. Add the green tea bag. Let this steep for about twenty minutes, and then add the sugar + lemon juice. Fill your pitcher the rest of the way up with the 26oz cold/purified water. Remove the teabag and refrigerate until completely cold. Enjoy!
kick it up a notch
Instead of green tea, try a flavored or herbal tea - like pomegranate. Or try making popsicles--pour some BSGT Lemonade into an ice cube tray, cover the tray with plastic wrap and stick a toothpick through the wrap into each individual cube's section. :)
